Amsterdam!

Yoyo!

First of all, Happy Birthday Cris, you old woman!

Last weekend me and Nadja met up with other trainees who were in Hyderabad in Amsterdam! Gil from Ireland was there, as well as Jenny from Germany and Olga from Switzerland (both ex-Masalites!), and the Dutchies: Friederike, Gerben, Imke. I don't actually know if anyone except the old Masalites (Hide, Marcelo etc.) remember or met them. But I am sure that you DO remember Miss Caroline? Well, I didn't want to miss the chance to meet my favourite Dutch Miss. We went on a boat trip through the Grachts (canals) of Amsterdam. It was so great to see you again Caroline, let's do that again very soon!

Aren't we a beautiful couple? :) Anyways, we didn't only drive around in boats but also went out to show Amsterdam how Hyderabadis party! So we ended up in this big disco and did the shake-a-delic until the early morning. We of course drank a lot of beer, too. I think Jenny and especially Gil really felt it the next morning. But of course, Gerben looked worse, as he always does after drinking. Enjoy the pictures, if you want to see more of them, go here.

Password Change

Dear all,
Nadja just told me that Marcelo shared the access data to this blog with the whole Satyam Google Community. While I think it's nice if as many people as possible read this blog, I guess it makes sense to restrict writing access to those who really lived in Masala Flat. Don't worry Marcelo, I don't blame you, these things happen. If you did it on purpose though, shame on you :).

What I did is change the password. I'm sending the new password to all the people I think should have access but I do not have all the email addresses. If you do not get an email from me within the next hour, please write to me at spaeth.aiesec@gmail.com if you think you should have access to the blog!

I hope you all understand this measure I'm taking, it's for the best of this community blog.

Marcelo Back to Sao paulonagar

Dear all,
It's been a week since i got here in Brazil. I miss Hyderabad a lot. It is quite hard to adapt. After 19 months lots of things changed, things in my friend's lives, family members and so on. In the otherhand, the dynamic environment in which i was living in india, sounds like science fiction hereI tell my people here about the progress, about the fly overs, about how is it to be a very old employee in Satyam after only 1.5 years among all the freshers. For them it is unbeliveble.
my saying is:"In India you don't have to read the newspaper to be aware of the economic growth, you just have to look to the streets through the window"
I miss the optimism of my friends in India. i miss the hope in their eyes, their aspirations and dreams.
I friend of mine told me when i got here: "welcome, you just left a emerging country for a submerging one". The atmosphere here is of "survival". Peopleare concentrating on the struggle to keep their standards of living. I had dinner yesterday with a friend of mine who used to work in DHL Bombay and she told methat a call center operator in DHL Bombay is making more money in India than the people who she manages here in the biggest Brazilian Call center. I just want to remind you that our prices much more expensive than in India.
I miss the innocent look of Indian ladies, their pure gaze. I miss my morning paratha. My idly. I miss complaining about the spicy food, the crazy rickshaw wallas, the paperboy that delivers the "Deccan Chronicle" instead of the "the Hindu". i miss my landlord's son coming up every evening saying "marcelooooooo,My father wants to talk to you" (a.k.a. "he is mad with all those foreigners"). I miss the Rs 10 Dal Rice at Patel Hotel, the chai and the beedie with the owner of the place. i miss Sleeper Class, chai and train birianyi. More than anything else, i miss Cristina Ma'am.
People here don't understand my experience and maybe they never will unless they undergo a long stay in the Bharat mata. The other day i was showing some picturesto a friend of mine some pictures i took when i went to ajanta caves in August 2005. I thought:"Gosh, this was so long ago. So many things have happened since that trip!!"
No one here understads a malayalee joke (such as why productivity in kerala is so low? Because malayalees spend half their time folding and unfolding their lungis!) Bollywood is unknown here. Aish and Amitabh could walk alongside the whole of copacabana beach in Rio and be totally annonymous And i dont know why, but i get angry when people who know nothing about India look down to Her. "Oh, did you manage to learn any of their dialects there?". "Dialect??? Rabindranath Tagore got a nobel prize for his works in Bengali and you call it a dialect? Tamil has status of classical language alongside Sanskrit, Greek and Latin and you call it a dialect?" Maybe i have to be more tolerant and less emotional.
Anyway, in India, outside my group of friends, i was always a foreigner, a videsh, an Angrezi or a firangi. I kind of belong to this Brazilian place. maybe not...Maybe i belog to nowhere now!!
I will try to write more personal mails in the coming days, life has been hectic since i got here.
Regards,
Marcelo

In Berlin

Hey you guys,
I thought it's time for a little action again here. And I also thought it's time to reveal my itfriend's identity. I mean, most of you guys have probably guessed it and I've not been planning to make a secret out of it, somehow the game with guessing we played was fun and I never got around to telling you that I am, in fact, together with Nadja, whom some of you met in Hyderabad. She lived in Road No. 12. We've been together for almost 5 months now!

Last week we spent some time in Berlin, where Nadja is from. It was great, I love Berlin, always have, and it's even better when you have someone by your side who grew up there and knows their way around. We also took a trip to the 'country' south of Berlin and I'm simply going to attack a few pictures from the whole stay. I hope you enjoy them and are happy for me and Nadja.

On another note, my friend who hosted my blog while I was in India had to take it down because of spam. I've made my own, new blog at http://mikesayshi.blogspot.com. Feel free to visit it, in fact, please do, I'd love some comments on it. I've started writing about other things than travel reports and I'm not sure it's as good as it should be ;)

Anyway, I'm glad the blog works again and we all found our way back. Greetings go out to Jorge and André, glad to see a sign of life from you guys. Of course I also send my greetings to all of you other guys, I'm very happy that Cris made it back safe to Ecuador and that you're posting here. Please, you others, let's hear what's happening to you, wherever you are! This is a great platform for communication! Where have all the Koreans gone, for example? Miss Little Chinese and Grandma? Where are you? We want news!

Ok, I'll stop writing now. Enjoy the pictures.

god is blue

yohere i am.( your favourite masalite. i dont even need to sign now after saying this. you all know now who i am.) having adventures. in thailand. and by the way, cristina ma'am, yesterday i had a crazy story with a lady boy. when i say it is crazy it really is but i will only tell this story if one day will have a dinner or a weekend together somewhere in the world... all the masalites. or at least a good number... is a good story.

well. in 10 days i ll be going to burma. till then i will have a workshop on natural building. yes. building a house. naturally. that is one of the things i have been doing. i think my career is on the construction field now. doing something real.

anyways. the reason why i am writing is because i dont to do after going to burma. i mean. i planned to go to malaysia to work in a farm but i dont think this will work out. a friend told me to go and work with the fishermen for a while. but i dont think i will. so any idea will be welcome. you know i like strange things so... i like normal things too. what i want to say is that, for example, if you once thought about something you would like to do in this corner of the world. i mean. southeast asia. just tellme. perhaps i would like to do it too. i need inspiration. please... help me.

it's all by now. take care masalites. and keep in touch.

Road Number five, boss, Massalaflat!

Hey Massalitos,

how's it going in Road N5 Banjari Hills, the Beverly Hills of Hyderabad! I felt like scrapping sth in this blog to show that it's not dead and there are actually more ppl than Mike, Jorge and Christina writing their lifestories... which also nice ; )
I am still in Montreal, it is right now -35 degrees, half a meter snow and I have an exam tomorrow, damn it. After finishing my thesis here, I will go back to Europe, where my roots are and get veery rich, or not.
Hey Jorge, my SItar is fucked up, when I try to tune it, it doesn t sound right anymore. U wanna trade yours against mine?? I didn t brake it, since I did that already in Hyderabad, but I don't know what the CHarrrrminar is wrong with it! RIght now, I just use it to put my clothes on it, with all respect to my holy instrument.
Anyways, I hope the new Massalitos will have a lot of fun as well, keep up to roofparties and the guitarsounds up there and the Backpiper, and the other stuff ; )

Greetings from Montréal, cheeeeaaaaaaaaa

André
